{"id":1629,"date":"2025-12-22T23:23:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-22T17:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/singhamarpreet.com\/?page_id=1629"},"modified":"2025-12-22T23:23:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T17:53:13","slug":"oee-calculations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/singhamarpreet.com\/index.php\/oee-calculations\/","title":{"rendered":"OEE Calculations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>What is OEE?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OEE shows what percentage of your planned production time is truly productive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>100% OEE means: running all planned time, at maximum speed, making only good boards.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In real SMT lines, typical OEE is far below 100% because of changeovers, stoppages, speed losses and defects.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Formula:\u2028OEE = Availability \u00d7 Performance \u00d7 Quality (all as percentages).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 1 \u2013 Calculate Availability (SMT Example)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Availability looks at: \u201cOut of the planned time, how much time did the line actually run?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Formula:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Availability = Run Time \/ Planned Production Time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>SMT example \u2013 Pick &amp; Place line<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shift length: 8 hours = 480 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Planned breaks: 30 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Planned production time = 480 \u2212 30 = 450 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unplanned stops:<ul><li>20 min for feeder jam.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>10 min for printer cleaning due to paste smear.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>20 min waiting for components.<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Total unplanned stop = 50 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Run Time = 450 \u2212 50 = 400 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Availability = 400 \/ 450 = 0.8889&nbsp;\u2192&nbsp;88.9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 2 \u2013 Calculate Performance (SMT Example)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Performance asks: \u201cWhen the line was running, did it run at the designed speed?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Formula (recommended):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Performance = (Ideal Cycle Time \u00d7 Total Count) \/ Run Time.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Where:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ideal Cycle Time = fastest possible time per board at rated CPH.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>SMT example \u2013 Same line<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assume:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ideal line rate = 3,600 CPH (1 board per minute).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>So Ideal Cycle Time = 1 minute per board.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During the 400 minutes of Run Time, the line produced 320 boards (good + bad).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Performance = (Ideal Cycle Time \u00d7 Total Count) \/ Run Time\u2028= (1 \u00d7 320) \/ 400\u2028= 0.8&nbsp;\u2192&nbsp;80%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This 20% loss could be from: micro\u2011stoppages at printer, slow placement due to conservative speed, manual interventions, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 3 \u2013 Calculate Quality (SMT Example)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quality asks: \u201cOf all boards produced, how many passed without rework?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Formula:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Quality = Good Count \/ Total Count.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>SMT example \u2013 Same lot<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Total boards produced: 320.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boards that failed AOI or functional test and need rework: 16.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Good Count = 320 \u2212 16 = 304 boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quality = 304 \/ 320 = 0.95&nbsp;\u2192&nbsp;95%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 4 \u2013 Calculate OEE for the SMT Line<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now multiply the three factors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Availability = 88.9%\u00a0\u2192\u00a00.889<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Performance = 80%\u00a0\u2192\u00a00.80<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quality = 95%\u00a0\u2192\u00a00.95<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>OEE = 0.889 \u00d7 0.80 \u00d7 0.95 \u2248 0.676&nbsp;\u2192&nbsp;67.6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means the SMT line is only 67.6% effective compared to its full potential over that shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a detailed presentation on how to calculate OEE in any manufacturing Industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a id=\"wp-block-file--media-177ce964-afbe-4cff-9a98-0d3418ea0234\" href=\"https:\/\/singhamarpreet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/29.-OEE-Calculations.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">29.
